Craftsman Style Remodel

This house was built in the 1970's using conventional materials and finishes in a quiet neighborhood in Sebastopol . The current owner is a design professional, and together he and I devised ways to improve both the function and feeling of his home, blending in hints of Craftsman and Mission style architectural features.

The existing attached garage was converted into a home theater room. The washer and dryer were relocated from the garage to a new laundry room addition. The wall between the garage and the dining area was removed to open the spaces. A beam hidden in the ceiling took its place.

The original single pane aluminum windows and sliding door were replaced with dual glazed vinyl clad wood units which included the Mission style design details. The plywood siding was covered with Cedar shingles framed with 2” thick Cedar trim. A round window was added at the entry area.

New exterior light fixtures in the Craftsman style provided a finishing touch. Inside, new Bamboo flooring and elaborate baseboard, door and window trim completed the makeover.
